The thyroid gland is a small organ situated in the front of your neck. It is responsible for the production of thyroid hormones. The hormones play different roles in different parts of your body. You can suffer from thyroid disease when your thyroid glands produce more or less than the adequate amount of hormones. Excessive production is marked by hyperactive thyroid glands and causes hyperthyroidism. The glands may produce fewer hormones. It is known as hypoactive thyroid glands. The condition is known as hypothyroidism. If you want to identify symptoms of thyroid, here are a few signs, as suggested by med spa houston tx:

    Losing or gaining excessive weight

This is the most important symptom that will help you identify if you have a thyroid. It will also help in finding what type it is noticing your weight loss or gain. An overactive thyroid disorder causes weight loss. An underactive thyroid disorder is responsible for excessive and sudden weight gain.

    Anxiety, irritability, and trouble sleeping

Have you started feeling a little irritable lately? It might be a symptom of thyroid disorder. Feeling anxious, panicked, or having difficulty falling asleep can denote an overactive thyroid disorder. Feeling fatigued can be a symptom of an underactive thyroid disorder.

    Irregularity in the menstrual cycle

Women can identify if they are suffering from thyroid by monitoring their menstrual cycle. In case you are noticing sudden changes in your menstrual cycle, i.e., irregular periods or no periods at all, it can be due to thyroid glands producing too many hormones. On the other hand, heavy and longer periods denote an underproduction of thyroid hormones.

Feeling sensitive to heat and cold

If you are feeling excessively sensitive to heat and going out in the sun has become unbearable for you, these can be signs of hyperthyroidism. Likewise, feeling sensitive to cold denotes hypothyroidism.

As you read that thyroid glands help the functioning of various vital activities in the body, its improper production of hormones can lead to varied complications. Primarily, it impacts your metabolism, thereby making it difficult for your body to transform food into energy. Men, women, and anyone at any age can suffer from thyroid diseases. Keep in mind that the impact can be seen after a certain age. When you notice early signs of thyroid, you must consult a doctor for diagnosis and proper treatment. Treatment received at the right time can keep your thyroid in control.
