Surrogacy is the process of carrying a child on behalf of the intended parents. If you are unable to conceive a child on your own due to some medical condition or same-sex marriage, then you can opt for this process. In this process, a woman artificially implants the father’s sperm or the donor’s sperm and carries the child. After the birth of the child, they deliver the baby to the intended parents to raise.

If you are planning to become a surrogate mother, then some legal procedures must be strictly followed. Visit surrogates san diego to gain more knowledge and gather information before entering into this process.

What are the criteria for becoming a surrogate mother?

Becoming a surrogate mother is usually based on the clinic’s procedures, or you need to meet the requirements given by the intended parents. However, here are some common requirements that many medical professionals check while selecting a candidate:

    • Health

You should not have suffered from any diseases or illnesses that a child may inherit. You should not have suffered from depression or anxiety for at least 12 months prior. Have a healthy BMI as per the doctor’s requirements.

    • Age

You should be at least above the age of 21 and below 35 for eligibility, as it is considered the best age range to have a healthy pregnancy.

    • Smoking and drinking

You should be a non-smoker and non-alcoholic to meet the requirements of becoming a surrogate mother, as it risks the pregnancy.

    • No pregnancy complications

Many clients consider at least one healthy pregnancy before becoming a surrogate mother. Your previous pregnancy should not have complications such as miscarriage or risky pregnancy.

    • No criminal records

You should not have criminal records in your history as it might raise risk to the surrogacy process.

    • Medical screening

You must undergo medical screening to ensure you have good physical and mental health.

    • Lifestyle stability

A stable livelihood is an important factor, as surrogacy can be challenging.

Before embarking on this journey, you must be aware of the physical and mental challenges you might face due to hormonal changes. Visiting a professional who can explain to you all the challenges you might face will be advisable.

Pros and cons of becoming a surrogate mother

    • It will provide financial compensation for the time and services.
