LANAP Surgeries -Answering All The Basic Questions!

The first question that pops up in your mind might be, ‘What does LANAP stand for?’ and that is a valid question! LANAP is short for Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure, conceived to cure gum disease. What is gum disease? Also known as periodontal disease, it is a common oral health issue that occurs when bacteria build up in your gums.

This causes inflammation and eventually damages the tissues and bones supporting your teeth. LANAP takes care of that! It is minimally invasive and a highly effective alternative to traditional gum surgery. If you were wondering where to get the best treatment, you could contact lanap surgery allentown!

What happens in LANAP?

  1. After the dentist decides that you need LANAP, a specially calibrated laser is used to target and eliminate the bacteria and infected gum tissue. The laser also helps remove hardened debris from the root surfaces, making the tooth surface smoother and less inviting to the bacteria!
  2. Next, the dentist will perform a process called scaling and root planing, where they gently remove tartar and plaque from the tooth roots so that the gum tissue gets reattached.
  3. The laser has a unique ability that allows it to seal blood vessels for the formation of a blood clot. Why? This is to create a natural barrier that protects the healing site in your mouth.
  4. The laser’s energy triggers the stem cells within the gum tissue to create new collagen, bone, and blood vessels for faster and better healing.
  5. In the end, the dentist will use the laser to compress the tissue against the root surface, thus increasing the speed of the reattachment process.

What about the recovery process?

Generally, LANAP requires only two appointments with your dentist. Each of the two halves of your mouth is treated in both appointments. You will not spend more than 6 hours together at the dentist’s!

In most cases, you will be fine driving yourself home after the procedure. Usually, you will recover within 48 hours to return to your everyday activities within a couple of days of the surgery.

Why LANAP?

  • The laser’s high-energy beam sterilizes the area where you were operated on, thus reducing the risk of any infection.
  • Unlike traditional surgery for gum disease, LANAP is less likely to cause gum recession, thus avoiding a whole set of oral problems for you!
  • As mentioned above, the recovery period of LANAP is a huge advantage! You will be normal within 2 days.
  • LANAP is based on using lasers instead of any sharp medical instruments, thus resulting in less bleeding and post-op pain.
