A healthy period blood varies in color – from bright red to dark brown. That is why when it gets thinner and seem watery, many women start to worry. Many believe that this is a sign of pregnancy. Read on to learn more about watery period.

Menstrual Cycle: How You Get Period Blood

Estrogen levels are high, while progesterones are low during monthly menstrual cycle. The higher estrogen levels results to thicker uterine lining. Lower progesterone on the other hand prepares the thickened lining for the fertilized egg. When not fertilized, the progesterone levels drop and the lining sheds. That is how the body produces period blood.

Watery Period: How it Naturally Happens?

There are plenty of reasons why you are having a watery period. Your monthly periods are greatly affected by your hormones. That is why it is important to thoroughly understand why and how this happens.

    • Low Estrogen Levels. This causes the uterine lining to be thinner. And this means that the shedding of the lining is also lesser. And this can cause your period to look watery.
    • High Progesterone Levels. High progesterone hormone levels may also cause watery period. In a form of contraception, the progesterone levels can prevent the uterine lining to become thick. This creates the same effect as having low estrogen levels.
    • Approaching Menopause. Your watery period could also be a sign that you are approaching menopause. This happens when your body stops producing menstrual blood the entire year. And before menopause occurs, the body goes through “perimenopause.” This is when the hormone levels start to fluctuate which generally affects your monthly periods.

Watery Period, A Sign of Pregnancy?

Many women wonder, is watery period blood sign of pregnancy? It could be. This is not the only symptom of pregnancy. This though can happen during the early phases of pregnancy. If you are experiencing nausea, fatigue, breast tenderness, morning sickness, along with watery period, take a home pregnancy test. Consult with a healthcare professional. This way, your situation will be thoroughly assessed by a doctor.

Watery period blood is often not a cause to worry. Listen to your body’s responses if you are trying to conceive. In this case, watery period is a sign that you should not take for granted. Your natural menstrual cycle can help you understand what’s going on with your monthly period.
