Going For Tooth Extraction? Follow The Checklist Before!

Tooth extraction is an extremely common procedure that dentists conduct for different reasons. Tooth Extraction can be done to remove the wisdom tooth, excessive tooth decay, fixation of the oral cavity, etc. This process is fairly simple and can happen in a day or less, depending on your condition.

Although some people have the misconception that tooth extraction is extremely painful, the true story is it is not as painful as it is portrayed. If you are planning to get a tooth extraction, you might have to suggest Willowbrook, IL oral surgery. A professional can assist you and guide you through the procedure of tooth extraction.

Here is a list of things that you must do before you get your tooth extracted by your dentist.

    1. Inform the dentist about your medical condition beforehand. This will help the dentist to prescribe your drugs and medication accordingly. Moreover, if you have been on medications or supplements like vitamins, minerals, or any other drugs, your dentist will then decide the kind and the level of anesthesia to give to you for the surgery.
    2. If, after the tooth extraction, you have a different appointment with a doctor to treat you with anesthesia or any medications, do inform your dentist about this. Different drugs have different effects on the body when combined, so you must brief your dentist beforehand.
    3. When appearing for a tooth extraction at a dentist, you may want to take care of a couple of things:
    • Wear loose-fitting clothes or a half sleeves T-shirt because you will be injected with anesthesia to numb the affected area.
    • Do not eat or drink anything for six to eight hours before the surgery.
    • Inform your dentist if you are cold or experiencing a fever. If so, then your appointment will be rescheduled.
    • Inform the dentist if you were feeling nauseating or vomiting the day before the surgery.
    • Do not smoke or drink before the surgery.
    • Get someone along with you to the dentist so that they can drive you back home, as you would be given anesthesia that would make you feel dizzy and nauseated for a while.

Several constraints and factors must be considered before any dentist extracts your tooth. So, ensure that you brief your dentist about all your medical and health conditions so that the dentist can make combined decisions. Your dentist will also ensure you feel minimal pain from your tooth extraction.
