Cosmetic dermatology is a branch of dermatology that caters to improving the appearance of your skin other than treating a skin condition. Cosmetic dermatology at Forest Hills can help improve the texture of your skin and smoothen out wrinkles. You can visit a cosmetic dermatologist for a suitable procedure.

The following are the most common procedures:

    1. Botox

Botox is a procedure that involves the injection of purified botulinum toxin into your muscles. Before the injection, you can choose to apply a topical anesthetic or choose not to numb your skin. The procedure

    Botox can treat the following:

    • Wrinkles
    • Frown lines
    • Forehead furrows
    • Crow’s feet
    1. Chemical peels

If you have uneven skin tone or acne scars that you want to get rid of, a chemical peel might be the option for you. As the name suggests, chemical peels work by peeling off the outermost layer of your skin to expose a smoother layer of skin, free of blemishes.

    The procedure comprises three types:

    •  Light chemical peel
    • Medium chemical peel
    • Deep chemical peel

The type of chemical peel that you will choose will depend on what you want to treat. The procedure can deal with conditions such as acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles. Although you can have multiple light or medium chemical peels, you can only have one deep chemical peel in your lifetime.

    1. Microneedling

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that uses tiny sterilized needles to stimulate collagen production. The procedure treats wrinkles, acne, scars, and large pores. It is advisable to visit a cosmetic dermatologist other than performing the procedure yourself to avoid infection.

Although the procedure requires several sessions to see results, it is cost-effective, especially if you don’t want to have a facelift. It is not recommended for people with active acne, severe psoriasis, or eczema.

    1. Skin lasers

To enjoy firmer and tighter skin, you should look into skin lasers. Operating through concentrated beams of light, you can achieve younger-looking skin after several sessions.

Skin lasers fall under different categories:

    • Vbeam
    • Palomar
    • Excel V
    • CoolSculpting
    • EmSculpt
    • Exilis Ultra

Skin lasers work by stimulating collagen and elastin. The procedures can disperse skin pigments to promote an even skin tone. The benefits of skin lasers include smoother, tighter skin that is free of wrinkles.

    1. Dermal fillers

Fillers are injections containing hyaluronic acid as the base ingredient and are used to plump up and add volume to sunken areas. They can treat lines and wrinkles, add volume to cheeks and enhance your lips. They fall under different categories:

    • Juvederm – contains hyaluronic acid in a gel base in different consistencies for treating specific problems
    •  Restylane – contain different particles for different problem areas
    • Bellafill – contains small polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), which stimulates collagen production

Visit a cosmetic dermatologist if you struggle with wrinkles, fine lines, or acne scars. You will receive an evaluation of your skin health and a recommendation for the best treatment. Adult and Pediatric Dermatology offers extensive skin treatments to help you love and appreciate your skin. Call or book an appointment online today.
